    Glen McPheat

    Guitar and Vocals

Glen McPheat is a Brighton-based singer, songwriter and guitarist. He’s been at it for years.

It started with rock ’n’ roll. Elvis. Scotty Moore. Eddie Cochran. Rockabilly became psychobilly. Then Hendrix and The Doors happened and three chords weren’t quite enough.

At university he went the other way: long hair, earrings, Nick Drake, the Incredible String Band, wandering barefoot around Sidmouth Folk Festival playing for beer.

Then he cut his hair, threw away the tie-dye and joined Ton Ten Easy — high-energy prog punk shaped by MC5 and The Stooges. Their name came from two boy racers discussing speed: “Ton ten, easy.” 110mph. Their rallying cry: Find your tribe and organise.

After originals with his brother Dan in The Shakedown Collective, McPheat fell arse-first into the blues with The Blues Issue: two albums, the 100 Club, bills with Bernie Marsden and Dr Feelgood.

Then Holland. More records. More gigs. More songs.

Back in Brighton came Brix & Mortals with Faron Isaac. Then the pandemic. The band stopped. The songs didn’t.

Eventually McPheat, Isaac and Dan Brookes formed Brevryn.

Folk. Punk. Blues. Psychedelia. Indie. Fuck-ups. Ageing. Love. Loss. The occasional moment of grace.

    Find your tribe and organise.

    Faron Isac

    Bass and Vocals

Faron Isaac is a vocalist, songwriter and bass player based in Brighton, whose music draws on the traditions of Blues Rock, Americana and roots music.

Isaac began developing his songwriting and performing career in Edinburgh with bands: Ammo and Flaming Katy and moved to Brighton, where he formed Brix & Mortals, a four-piece blues-rock band with Glen McPheat (vocals /guitar), Alan Butts (guitar) and Sean-Lee Duncan (drums). The band established a following through a series of local gigs across Sussex, developing a powerful blues rock act.

Following the disruption caused by the pandemic in 2020, Brix & Mortals entered a hiatus. However, the musical partnership between Isaac and McPheat continued. When McPheat subsequently moved to the Netherlands, the two continued writing and creating music across the distance, maintaining the creative connection that had developed through their work together in Brighton.

In 2025, following Glen McPheat's return to the UK, the pair reunited and began working together on a new collection of songs with Dan Brookes (vocals and guitar) This collaboration became Brevryn, a newly formed project which continued to explore a broader and more atmospheric musical landscape.

As vocalist, songwriter and bass player, Isaac brings a strong emphasis on storytelling, character and emotion to Brevryn's music. His songwriting draws from the  more reflective sides of Celtic Soul,  Rock and roots music, leaving room for experimentation to produce a distinctive sound blending voices and guitars.

Brevryn represents the continuation of a musical partnership that began in Brighton, survived years of separation and ultimately brought the musicians together to create something new.

    Dan Brookes

    Guitar and Vocals

Dan Brookes is a vocalist, guitarist and songwriter based in Worthing, with a heartfelt, emotive voice shaped by blues greats like Muddy Waters and Peter Green, and artists like Gomez and John Mayer.

His musical journey has taken him through a handful of bands — from the funk-rock energy of Lynams Scarlet Lover, all mosh pits and crowd surfing, to The Shakedown Collective, a high-energy blues rock outfit formed with his brother Glen McPheat. More recently, solo gigs across Sussex have channelled the weight and wonder of ordinary life into evocative, emotional songs.

His songwriting has always looked outward to find its way in — to storms rolling off the sea, rivers finding their course, sunsets that don’t last and woods that hold their secrets. In these he finds a language for heartbreak, for the sense that life is less a destination than a journey worth taking, and for the quiet belief that even the hardest stretches leave you somewhere better than they found you. Seize the day, don’t let it slip past — and be grateful for the twists that got you here.

With Brevryn, that instinct for vulnerability finds a new home. A brotherhood once broken by time and distance, now rebuilt with McPheat and joined by Faron Isaac — three voices, one sound, built on honesty and connection.

    Andrew Walker

Drummer - all round musical genius 12 string six string you name it!

An all-round musical genius behind the drums, Andrew Walker is also an accomplished guitarist and music educator, teaching across Sussex.

He's played in more bands than anyone can reasonably remember, bringing a wealth of experience, instinct and musicality to Brevryn.

Andrew first met Faron Isaac while they were studying for master's degrees in Community Music at New Cross, beginning a musical friendship that has lasted ever since.

A lover of the great California sounds of the late sixties and early seventies — from The Mamas & the Papas to Crosby, Stills & Nash and the Laurel Canyon scene — Andrew brings that same spirit of musical exploration and collaboration to Brevryn.
